Science is a core subject for all students from Year 7 through Year 10 at Irymple Secondary College.
In Year 7 Science, class is with the student's form group.
In Years 8, 9 and 10 students are grouped together depending on their ability.
Support classes are for students that need modified and extra support to complete the curriculum. Where possible, these classes are smaller to allow teachers the ability to provide individual time to each of the students.
The General classes are for students that are at level and work through the curriculum as expected.
The Advanced classes are for students that have demonstrated a high level of understanding and motivation towards their learning in Science.
All students at all levels have the opportunity to participate in The Big Science Competition, incursions such as traveling science shows and guest speakers and excursions to the Water Treatment Plant, Woodsies Gem Shop or the wetlands as they support the Science curriculum.
The Emerging Science Program, run through the John Monash Science School, is offered to any students that excel in Science at Year 9 and Year 10 level.
