Drama is about life.
The aim of the Drama Club is to introduce the students to interesting stories, characters and texts in an imaginative way. As we develop their performance skills, we inspire students to read in full the stories they are rehearsing and also research the issues, setting and historical contexts of the work. The work will introduce students to basic terms and skills, such as audience awareness, voice projection, dictions, stance and gesture. This will be achieved through simple Drama activities, including games, simple acting activities and voice skills.
There are many benefits in belonging to Drama Club. Drama helps your listening skills, communication, instinctive reactions, imagination, voice and speech, physicality and range of motion but more-so it builds your confidence and gives you the chance to meet people who have the same passions and interests as you. Everyone feels nervous at first, especially at the thought of performing in front of an audience, but you’ll be surprised at how quickly you will adapt to performing in front of others with confidence especially when entertaining your fellow class members. Practicing drama also helps you get over your fear of talking in front of people and could be really helpful for when you have to present projects or make a speech.
The Drama Club meets every Wednesday at 3:30pm-3:45pm in E9 to produce and create plays to be performed during lunchtimes, the Eisteddfod, the Beat and our main school production. Rehearsals can sometimes be intense but it is a way to shift gears after a long day in the classroom. Especially if you spent the whole day studying facts and figures, suddenly being on your feet and doing something creative can feel refreshing. The Drama Club is open to all students in the school.
We ask that all cast members have an A4 display folder that will house your scripts. This should be brought to every rehearsal. Cast members should have comfortable shoes, clothing for choreography days and a drink. Make sure you listen to the announcements during form group for any changes to the schedule.
Drama Club: every Wednesday 3:30-4:45pm in the AHub Drama Room.
