The Venue- Magic Millions Auditorium Adelaide The first fight was Monday 11/2/2013
Opponent Villi Tupoa from Melbourne, was a very clever boxer with a southpaw or left handed stance which is the same as Connor. This made for a tough bout with plenty of back and forth attacks. After a slow start by Connor the first two rounds were scored even. Connor then found his rhythm and proved too clever for the Melbourne based boxer, outpointing him by two points in the final round to take out the first elimination bout, advancing Connor to the final. With a good warm- down program including saltwater swims in the ocean and post- fight instruction from his coaching group of head coach Ty Ransome, Assistant coach Rick Tyson and SA team coach Mick Hastings he felt confident and inspired to take out the gold in the final bout held on Wednesday13/2/2013 .
Connor’s opponent for the gold medal bout was an older boy from Queensland -Guy Rayfield with a very raw and aggressive bullocking style of boxing. Connor had his work cut out for him from the opening bell. Connor’s tight defence and good counter punching skill combined with sound advice from Ty, Rick and Mick (which he took on board during the break in between rounds), saw him take the first and second rounds by two and four points consecutively. The final round saw Connor find his distance and superior footwork, rendering his opponent unable to score a blow, handing Connor the win with a final score of ten points to four taking out the 60kg Schoolboy Australian Title.
Connor’s record now stands at 8 bouts for 7 wins also including a South Australian State Title and an award for SA Schoolboy Boxer of the Year with a view towards the World and Commonwealth Games, everything looks bright for the future .
Connor would like to thank everyone who has helped him reach these heights :
